Before I dive into the topic, I would like to express my opinion in a few things.
The past few years now, I have been following a few twitch channels, with some I have engaged more than others.
To some I have become VIP, to some blocked. C’est la vie as the French say. We have a saying in Greek that reflects more accurate my feelings towards the latter but doesn’t make much sense if I talked about bees.
Anywho. With that I wanted to convey that I was gathering experience from streaming styles and mentalities of the streamers and their audience. Yes, I am fully aware that I am a nobody, this doesn’t make my points mute or invalid.
First, I have seen streamers who have turned their passion into a profession and make a living out of it. It is not my place to pass judgement on the topic. I am sure they have weighed the pros and cons and they ended up with the best answer. I will not strawman their position nor will attack it. I want to focus on me and my take on the “full time streamer” and how this can affect me. If you feel insulted, that’s on you, here, in this topic, I am talking about me.
So I do not see twitch partnership as a way to make a living, not because I am unknown and I have 0 fanbase but because I love my RL job. I do not earn enough to balance my month with inflation making expenses from double to triple but the salary remains pinned. Still my job is a relatively “safe” job and I know out there, there are people who risk their lives to make a living, there are people who go through hell and back. Who am I to take their donations?
Before you say that I am copying Moist Cr1TiKaL, I will have to say that although this post here is after the fact BUT my twitch description has been made this way weeks before Moist Cr1TiKaL’s video. Was I inspired by him? A little for this article. Before his video I wouldn’t say the phrase to take money off people who struggle and they still have generocity to donate to their favorite streamer. As I have written in my about section in twitch, I’d rather people who are generous and willing to donate, to donate to noble causes (humanitarian aid, research, education, science).
I might not be making my month’s expenses most of the time but I am not starving, I am not in any danger. There are people who are in much more need than my fat ass!
So…to Twitch or not?
I have been thinking my return to the platform as a streamer for some time now, I was content with remaining a viewer but two of my favorite streamers took a sad turn. No, I do not expect them OR anyone else to obey my whims but I do demand and not just expect them to respect my contributions to their channels and not them piss on my cereals. For now I will not dive into details about this topic, I am sure if those 2 streamers are reading this, they will know who they are and what they did. Their actions were a wakeup call to me, that no matter how hard I try in the end it doesn’t even matter! Sorry, the linkin park in me wanted to express it! Still the wakeup call was given, I have to at least try to show there is another way that has respect towards YOU and ME as a viewer! I will introduce you all to the concept of the Phalanx! What is a Phalanx?
The Phalanx was a military formation from the Ancient Greek city states, yes, Macedonians who were Greeks too, took it to the next level where the rest of the Greek world used Hoplites in a Phalanx formation, the Macedonians used Phalangites in that formation. Here I have to make a parenthesis. When we, Greeks and Academia, talk about the Ancient world and we will see phrases like “Alexander talked to the Macedonians and to the Greeks” at NO POINT we insinuate that Macedonians were not Greeks or that he spoke in another language. All that is said above is that “Alexander talked to his closest friends and to the rest”. The same way Leonidas talked to the 300 and to the Greeks. At NO POINT it is meant that Leonidas talked to 300 Martians and to the rest of the Greeks. And with that I want to be super clear, I will show 0 tolerance to anyone who will claim otherwise. There is no historical basis that contradicts that. Just because a bunch of people in our North “felt” they are Macedonians just because they live close to the region of Macedonia, it doesn’t make it true. A rat born in a stable isn’t a horse as much as it wishes it was. DNA and genetic continuation doesn’t vanish because the 151 Ephialtes signed the Prespa agreementThe Meaning Behind My Phalanx
Now that we’ve set the historical record straight, let’s talk about my version of the Phalanx, what it means in the digital world. The Phalanx wasn’t about numbers; it was about unity, discipline, and mutual protection. Each shield overlapped with the one next to it. Everyone relied on everyone else. No ego, no influencer hierarchy, no “top chatters.” Just formation and purpose. That’s what I want to bring into streaming — not followers, not viewers, not fans, but equals. People who respect themselves and each other enough to form a line, stand tall, and not stab their neighbor in the back for attention. The internet has forgotten this. Most online spaces today are emotional marketplaces — everyone shouting, everyone selling, everyone performing. The Phalanx, as I see it, is the antidote to that. The Philosophy of My Channel
My streams won’t be about trends or algorithms. They’ll be about conversation, perspective, and fun that doesn’t rot your brain. You can expect gaming, commentary, history, tech, humor, and occasionally me ranting about things most people would rather ignore. I will not promise schedules, fake smiles, or influencer politeness. You will get what I am — unfiltered, real, and occasionally sarcastic to the point of bluntness. You can agree or disagree; you can even debate me live. But you’ll do so respectfully, or you’ll march right out of formation and to decimation.About Money, Again (Because People Still Ask)
No, I still don’t want your donations. If I ever open that door, it will only be to redirect it toward actual causes that make a difference, people in need, humanitarian aid, kids who never had a fair chance. I don’t need it. I have a job, I eat, I live, I pay my bills. It ain’t easy but again, c’est la vie! There are people who can’t say the same. If you ever want to donate, I’ll help you find the right place to do it. But don’t spend your hard-earned money trying to buy a thank-you from me, your presence and respect are already worth far more! What I Expect (and What I Don’t Tolerate)
The Phalanx is built on respect and self-awareness. You can have opinions. You can question me. You can even roast me if it’s funny and done in good spirit. But if you walk in here thinking you can insult, belittle, or divide people — your time will be short and your exit immediate. This is not a “safe space.” It’s a strong space — a place where free speech and personal responsibility coexist, where words have weight, and where people are treated as adults. If that scares you, go watch someone else unbox pixels for bits or someone else who streams what’s trending right now trying grasp viewers from the pie.Closing Thoughts
To Twitch or not to Twitch? For me, the answer isn’t about fame or fortune. It’s about purpose. If even a handful of people gather here to share ideas, laugh, debate, and maybe learn something — then that’s enough. That’s the kind of stream worth running, the kind of community worth building. The Phalanx doesn’t need to be big. It just needs to stand firm. So, whether you come to talk, to think, or just to hang out — welcome to the line. Bring your shield. Leave your ego. We march soon. – Comfuzio
